Hardwoods Taking Center Stage Featuring Shamrock Plank Flooring

“This may not be the time to sell your home, but it’s the perfect time to renovate!”

Just ask do-it-yourself expert and nationally acclaimed designer, Vicki Payne.  She and her hand picked team of home improvement professionals recently completed a Kitchen Makeover for a family living in a suburban Charlotte community.  The American Hardwood Information Center was part of her impressive team of experts and American hardwoods are sharing the spotlight.

The September issue of Charlotte Living Magazine featured an article entitled, “Kitchen Makeover, Vicki Payne renovates Charlotte kitchen for PBS show For Your Home.”  It was a great read; included wonderful pictures of the renovated space; and when you check it out at www.charlottelivingmagazine.com , take note of the Kitchen Renovation Resource and Product Guide sidebar.  That’s where the American Hardwood Information Center, J.T. Shannon’s Shamrock Plank Flooring and Marsh Cabinets/Marsh Furniture Company are recognized for their significant contributions to the project.

The article concluded, “Look for this kitchen renovation and other great home projects on Vicki Payne’s show, For Your Home.”  That’s the next chapter in our exciting story.

As you know, the extremely popular series For Your Home is recognized as public television’s premier home and garden lifestyle series, and airs over 500 PBS stations.  Hosted by Vicki Payne, each thirty minute episode offers how-to tips and creative ideas.

For this kitchen renovation segment, the American Hardwood Information Center provided the hardwood “message” included in the episode scripting and HMA Executive Vice President, Linda Jovanovich, was even on hand for the final day of shooting.  Soon our wonderful American hardwood products will be basking in a very bright spotlight.

This Kitchen Makeover episode is being featured on two shows that will begin airing the week of November 15.  Then for three years or longer, this For Your Home segment can air on PBS and in syndication on other networks.  Check your local listings for the exact times in your market and be sure to tune in.

This was a great project and there’s more to come!

Shamrock featured in our local ASID Chapter's Newsletter

Choosing Solid or Environeered Flooring

Shamrock offers both Solid and Environeered flooring options as pre-finished, unfinished and hand scraped products. Both flooring types are excellent options for ground level flooring and above, depending on the subflooring. Due to the differences in installation methods, Environeered flooring is the best choice for basements and other spaces with concrete or other hard subflooring.

Solid
Shamrock's Solid Plank Flooring consists of 100% North American hardwood planks that have been milled, kiln-dried, ripped, molded, graded, and finely crafted to meet our exacting quality specifications. Our Solid hardwood floors are a sustainable building resource, and a beautiful addition to any home.

Environeered
Shamrock's Environeered Plank Flooring is the next generation of sustainable flooring. In an effort to extend Nature's precious resources, we have created a line of engineered flooring designed to be environmentally conservative. Shamrock's Environeered flooring utilizes only 1/4 of the hardwood used in Solid flooring, preserving the same wear life as Solid flooring and extending the use of our hardwood resources. Our core is made from 9 layers of faster-growing plantation grown Birch. This allows us to increase the structural stability of our floors while minimizing the amount of hardwood harvested.

The cross grain construction of our Environeered floors provides inherent structural stability, ensuring decreased expansion and contraction due to temperature and moisture variations. Minimizing movement in each board results in an overall superior installation, and will help preserve the beauty and integrity of your floor. Thicker than most engineered flooring, Shamrock Environeered planks are 5/8".

Reducing our Carbon Footprint means giving you the elegance you desire while taking only what we need from Mother Nature. When choosing Shamrock Solid or Environeered Plank Flooring, you choose beautiful flooring without sacrificing our environment. Hardwood is our heritage - preserving it is our future.

Made in the U.S.A.

Shamrock procures the finest quality hardwoods in North America, then mills and manufactures its flooring right here, in the United States. It all starts in Montezuma, Indiana where a Shamrock sawmill division, Superior Hardwoods, is located. Wood is processed into kiln-dried lumber at either the Indiana location or the Memphis location where J.T. Shannon Lumber Company is headquartered. The lumber is then planed, ripped, molded, graded and packaged to strict specifications. It is evident to Shamrock customers that the flooring has been overseen with quality and care through a controlled, precision process, which makes Shamrock Plank Flooring the best choice in the industry.

The Green Choice

North American hardwoods are the flooring material of choice among eco-friendly builders. Properly farmed hardwoods are completely sustainable and renewable, contributing to "carbon-neutral" building. In addition, Shamrock's manufacturing facilities minimize wood waste through efficient precision cutting and recycling of all wood byproducts.

According to the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service, the average annual net growth for hardwoods is greater than average annual removals. In fact, the average growth to removal ratio is 1.66, which means that for every cubic foot of hardwood removed, 1.66 cubic feet is added. In all, the standing hardwood volume currently is 328 billion cubic feet, an increase of nearly 90% since 1953.

April 13, 2010 • Congressman Childers Visits J.T. Shannon Lumber Co

The J.T. Shannon Lumber Company was proud to be a stop on U.S. Rep. Travis Childers' “Jobs and Economy Tour” of Mississippi's First District. The Congressman chose to visit our 30-acre hardwood flooring manufacturer because of our steady employment numbers and green initiatives.

Since our arrival in DeSoto County in 1982, J.T. Shannon Lumber Company has been a consistently strong part of the local economy. "We're proud to see people like Mr. Shannon (President/CEO Jack T. Shannon, Jr.) and his family employ 170 families," said Childers, in a statement to the Commercial Appeal. In addition to employing local labor, J.T. Shannon Lumber Company also uses lumber from local hardwood sawmills, including a facility located in Childers' home county of Prentiss, MS.

International Sales Manager, Jack Shannon III, Executive Vice President Jim Garrard and General Manager Rudy Weaver accompanied the congressman on his tour of the facility, and explained our company's commitment to green practices. “There's a lot of misconceptions about the lumber industry,” said Weaver, who has been with J.T. Shannon Lumber Company for over 14 years, “but it was good for Childers to see that we are good stewards of the forest and that we do value our raw materials and our products."

“Hardwood floors are a highly sustainable resource,” adds Shannon. “They last for decades with minimal care. When you factor in our low-waste manufacturing processes, they are a very environmentally friendly choice.”

We were honored to introduce Congressman Childers and his staff to our facility, our fine products and our exceptional team, who make us so proud.
